Sides of rock river have chestnut oak - sweet birch forest. Old roadway has rocks excavated ~ 1 m deep (in woods).;Sloping boulderfield in bottom of a drain. Trickling water can be heard under the rocks. Many rocks are upended along their axis, like tombstones, maybe caused by slow movement down the drainage. Boulders have heavy cover by umbillicate and crustose lichens. Interstices are likely habitat for small mammals and invertebrates.
